The Police tell us ...........

Whilst it's better than nothing, postcode marking saddles and tack items is not enough and can sometimes be confusing.  People move house or sell their saddle and, particularly with older saddles, it's not unknown for there to be three or four postcodes on one saddle.  When the Police stop a vehicle and find tack items in the back, they need to be able to identify the items without ambiguity or they can't detain either the the tack items or the suspects.

.........................................

The system put forward by Chips4Tack removes ambiguity. A microchip, hidden in the saddle, backed-up by our Chips4Tack special engraved code and all registered on the 'Immobilise' national property database, is the prime solution.  If the owner moves house all they have to do is change the address themselves on the database.  If they sell the saddle item then the new owner just opens their own Immobilise account (it's free) and registers the saddle under their own name. The coding on the tack remains the same and an enquiry by a police officer, stating the code will bring up the current registered owner.

Whilst saddles will be the main item for microchipping we strongly advise owners to visually mark their bridles.

Certainly, if you are not going to protect your tack using the Chips4Tack system then DO postcode mark your tack with a metal leather stamp or an indelible pen or something similar.
